The Only Way Is Up For Kayleigh

We sat down recently with the lovely Kayleigh from Hendrix Hair in Aberdeen, she tells us about her brand new salon and why she feels so passionate about making her client’s feel amazing.

Tell us a little more about yourself, what’s your background?

Hey, I’m Kayleigh Hendrix Jaffray, I’m 28 years old and been in the industry since the young age of 14. I’ve been trained by in my opinion the absolute best. Hairdressing is very much engrained into my identity, that I am very proud of.

How have you coped with Lockdown Life?

Urgh… lockdown.. I literally done all the usual carry on everyone else was up to (cooking, cleaning, decorating, quizzes) to be honest I think I was trying to fill a void, that of not being in the salon doing my thing and what I love. We were so lucky to have access to so many online education, so I dived into that taking full advantage of what was on offer and really feel I picked up some new techniques. Our industry during lockdown really came together and formed a strong community on social media. Soo really not all bad came from being locked away for all that time.

What inspired you to open the salon?

Opening my salon has always been my goal. When asked as a wee kid what I wanted to be when I was older I always said I wanted my own hairdresser, thankfully I changed my mind on the name choice, as back when I was 7 I thought the name kayles kut and kurls was a fabulous name, haha! Lockdown made me realise why wait? Just be brave and catch your dreams.

Tell us more about the Awards you have won.

Finalising and winning colour technician of the year 2 years in a row is just wow! Giving myself that push to apply has worked wonders for my confidence, which I never really realised I lacked until being finalised and winning. Soo grateful for all that has done for me.

Looking to the future, how do you think the industry will change over the next 12 months?

With restrictions in place, people right now are doing a whole lot of nothing. People are bored. Stressed and anxious, its our duty as stylists and salon owners even more so than normal to make their salon experience as relaxed and luxurious as we possibly can, this is where we all need to keep our level of service high. All while keeping safe of course! This is their only treat, their only touch, maybe only one to one interaction. We should be honoured they’re in our chair.
While our clients are working from home or not in the office we need to build their confidence, we really need to be sympathetic and open minded to what our clients are going through just now, of course it goes without saying give them fabulous hair but they need to feel fabulous from the inside as well, we can help with that. The next 12 months I think could be amazing for our industry if we all give that personal touch which maybe was starting to get lost ever so slightly… Clients will keep coming if you make them feel amazing, what else are they getting to treat themselves on just now?
