Meet: Claire from Fantoosh Nails in Aberdeen, the most vibrant and fun nail tech we know!
What is the most popular treatment at your business?
The most popular treatment in the salon is gel nails. However, I’ve recently added polytek to treatment menu and it’s proving popular with those clients that need something stronger than gel for their nails.
What is your favourite beauty treatment to receive?
My favourite treatment to get done is either a fresh cut and colour, or possibly a massage or perhaps a nice manicure!! ( Can you tell I’ve been in lockdown too long?! I want it all!! )
Beauty products I enjoy are anything by The Ordinary and Bare Minerals. Both are truly cruelty-free which is something I’ve very passionate about. All my products in salon are cruelty-free, vegan, hypoallergenic and HEMA free too.
What are your top tips for healthy-looking skin?
The best things for your skin, in my opinion, is water and a positive outlook. Make sure you eat or drink 8-10 glasses a day.
If you had to choose one skincare product that you couldn’t live without, what would that be?
Skincare wise, Superdrug’s B.Cosmetic range was a bit of a find. It’s a decent range that doesn’t break the bank and best of all it’s cruelty-free and vegan too!
What are your plans for the business in 2020?
So my plans for Fantoosh this year was to invest in new training to bring new products to the salon, build a new salon and to truly bring the salon in line with a more ethical outlook. Everything in salon is now either biodegradable, vegan, cruelty free, HEMA free, 5 free, hypoallergenic, antibacterial and recyclable. I think as we grow and mature it’s important to realise that, the things we do can have a big impact on our society. I know when I started in the beauty industry 8+ years ago, my focus was more on which brand had the nicest colours, best prices, even if the packaging was nice. Now I actively seek all that and want to know the ethical ethos behind the brand too. What does it matter if it’s gorgeous pink polish for example if someone had to suffer for it?!
What advice would you give to someone thinking of starting their own business?
My advice for anyone wanting to start their own business is just go for it! It has honestly been the biggest thrill of my life and I adore what I do and the relationships I’ve made along the way. It’s hard work, I mean I decided to become self employed after my first child and opened 10 months later just after i had my second. It possibly wasn’t the best timing, but waiting for the right time to come, will just mean that you will always be waiting. That right time never comes. If your passionate, and willing to put in the work anything is possible. Invest in yourself and make your dreams come true.
Do you have a party trick?
I dunno if I can call this a party trick, but I do a blinding Cher impression with a few gins in me!!
What’s your favourite song to sing to in the car?
Literally anything circa 2000!!! If I get a rare moment of alone time in the car, it’s gotta be The Foo’s, Green Day, Limp Bizkit blasting out the speakers and I’m bossin it along the Parkway….. en route to Tesco!! #wannaberockstar
