Selena Gomez Launches ‘Rare Beauty’

Selena Gomez announced at the beginning of February that she will be launching and makeup range exclusively with Sephora that is set to hit the market in summer this year. The star had previously hinted at her ambitions to launch a beauty brand back in August last year and it’s finally official!

Selena announced the line on her Instagram stating that she has been working on the project over the last 2 years and hopes it starts a conversation about the meaning of beauty. The singer and actress posted a video on her Instagram explaining more about the brand and stated that Rare Beauty is about being comfortable with ourselves. Selena discusses in the video how she hopes to encourage people to stop making comparisons to others and embrace what makes us unique, stating that ‘you are not defined by a photo, like, or a comment.’ Having opened up about her personal battles with self-confidence and mental health, the brand couldn’t be more inspirational and fitting to her.

Although not much is known about the products yet, so far, it looks as though the collection will include products such as lipsticks, eye products, blushes, and highlighters. Selena has recently been pictured on red-carpets wearing brightly coloured lipsticks, so hopefully this is a teaser of what is to come from the brand!

Selena wants to make the brand about the people, having launched a campaign on the 27th of February calling for her followers to share their stories with her on what makes them ‘rare’, fitting to the brand name. The campaign, using the hashtag #WeAreRare asks those contributing their stories to include their Sephora Colour ID, allowing them to wear Rare Beauty products fitting to them, as well as their Instagram name. Up to 50 people will be chosen to feature in the campaign. Selena encourages ‘every type of human’ to contribute, and hopes it will become a place of encouragement. Stories can be submitted on the Rare Beauty website with regular updates available on social media.
